Coyote Point Recreation Area occupies 670 acres on the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay, positioned where the Peninsula meets the waterfront. The park is home to CuriOdyssey, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit science museum and animal zoo founded in 1953 as the San Mateo County Junior Museum. Today it houses approximately 70 live animals from local wildlife rehabilitation centers, along with hands-on science exhibits and the Whooosh! Physics-in-Action Playground. CuriOdyssey is accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums and the Association of Science & Technology Centers.
Beyond the museum, Coyote Point offers walking and hiking trails through groves of eucalyptus trees, a sandy beach on the bay, a marina, and picnic areas. The park is a place families return to at different seasons: a school field trip for younger children, a place to walk or run for adults, a spot to watch aircraft approaching San Francisco International Airport, or simply a break from the intensity of Peninsula life.
